Entry fees from the Wild Boar Chase enabled the Lions to fund a £5,500 Jaundice Scanner for local midwives in the Forest of Dean. The scanner is a non-invasive, small, easily portable device that can be used by the midwives to detect jaundice in babies.
The cheque was presented to the midwives at the Speech House Hotel. Mr Hands (back right), owner of the hotel, generously allows the Lions to base the Wild Boar Chase on the Speech House Field. Holding the cheque are Alan Townley of the Forest of Dean Lions and Anny Read of SevernDean Lions. On the left is Geoff Davis also of the Forest of Dean Lions.
Alan added “The riders in the Wild Boar Chase come here from all over the country and can be rightly proud that their entry fees benefit the local community by enabling donations such as this“.
Richard Smith who accepted the donation on behalf of the midwives said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Forest of Dean and Severn Dean Lions for this amazing support, which will help us to safeguard new babies in the Forest of Dean from serious illness. It is wonderful to see the funds raised by the Wild Boar Chase making a direct impact on the local community, and the Jaundice Meter funded will benefit thousands of families in the local area”
The 2018 Wild Boar Chase and Humbug Chase will take place on Sunday 20th May 2018.
The event will again be based at the Speech House Field in the centre of the Forest of Dean.
